I’ve always been fascinated with both the human figure and the human psyche. I yearn to capture their essence on canvas. My artistic objective is to transport the person I see before me into dreamlike spaces to explore themes of connectedness, aloneness, memory and imagination.
My technique includes use of distortion, muted tonalities, idiosyncratic markings and vigorous brushstrokes in a style of rapidly laying oil paint on canvas. The immediacy and textural qualities of this method allows the work to unfold quickly and organically. The speed allows me to be in tune with the gesture and rhythm of the figure as well as with the rhythm of my own body.
Through the act of painting I seem to complete a part of myself.
